Sandy is a Sports & Exercise Physician Registrar in the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians.
He has been a sports medicine GP for 16 years and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries that arise from both competitive and non-competitive exercise.
He also treats personal medical conditions that may impact on an individual’s ability to exercise, such as osteoarthritis.
Since graduation from medicine in 1991 Sandy has undergone postgraduate training in Radiology (including musculoskeletal ultrasound), General Practice and Sports Medicine.
As part of his practice, Sandy can perform point of care musculoskeletal ultrasound to aid in the diagnosis and management of sports/musculoskeletal injuries.
Sandy has provided game day coverage across a wide variety of sports, including Australian rules football at the Sturt Football Club (SANFL).
Sandy is also involved with sports medicine education of the general public through the South Australian Sports Medicine Association and health professionals through the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and GPEX Registrar Training scheme. Dr. Kleinschmidt's overall aim is to provide an accurate diagnosis and management plan to enhance the individuals return to sport, physical activity and ultimately a healthier active lifestyle.
