Most of the population will have an episode of lowe r back pain (or neck pain) in their lifetime. It is a very common problem effecting both athletes and non-athletes, young and old and the active and inactive. The severity of injury can range from a mild discomfort to severe disabling pain.
At the Sports and Arthritis Clinic (SPARC) the Sports and Exercise Physicians are highly trained and highly experience in the identification and management of lower back (and neck) pain. One of the principles of management is to try and keep active. This may involve suitable pain relief, gentle mobilization and manipulation and a modification of the persons’ normal activities.
Pain that persists longer than 4 weeks should be identified and the Doctors at SPARC can assist in the diagnosis with the appropriate use of imaging. The most common imaging used for back and neck injuries is a MRI scan. MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging does not use any radiation (so it is patient safe) and gives great detail of the soft tissues that make up the lower back and neck.
For lower back pain a diagnosis, management plan and exercise program (often with physiotherapy input) is the best way to ensure patient safety and recovery. SPARC is here for you for this difficult problem.
