#CrazySocks4Docs Day started as an attempt to address the stigma and to make it ok for a Doctor or health professional not to be ok.During the break between the 2016 and2017 AFL seasons, players and coaches at the Richmond Football Club engaged in a daring team building exercise: they shared stories about themselves, sharing their vulnerabilities. It worked. It bonded the player group into a close-knit unit and contributed to the ultimate life bond: an AFL premiership. Sporting teams around the world have been embracing similar ideas with great success.Yet we, in medicine and health care, are seemingly unwilling to embrace our vulnerabilities. Now more than ever, it is important that we look after ourselves and our colleagues. We can do more to support each other and to normalise conversations about mental health for doctors and health professionals.Everyone is encouraged to start the conversation and get involved. All you have to do is wear bright, crazy or odd socks, take a photo of the socks or you in the socks and post the photo on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and chat to your family, friend and colleagues about the challenges of mental health – #crazysocks4docs or #socks4docsCan you guess who these socks belong to?!
